SPECIALIZED 4 HOURS
Description: Special considerations for lawyers resisting billable hour tyranny (the hardest battlefield).
Reality Check:
- BigLaw billable requirements (1800-2200 hrs/yr) are nearly impossible to fake
- Billing directly tied to partner comp and bonuses
- Partners scrutinize associate time with predatory intensity
- Write-downs and write-offs tracked obsessively
Realistic Tactics:
- Maximize legitimate non-billable work (pro bono, recruiting, training)
- Strategic project selection (some partners are easier)
- Exit planning (save money, build portable skills, leave)
- Go in-house (lower hours, more autonomy)
Harsh truth: BigLaw billable hour culture is deeply entrenched. Resistance is brutally difficult. Best option: leave.
